A healthy environment

With outdoor recreation so much a part of Suffolk County culture, you would expect that our residents enjoy healthy, happy lives – which they do. And we have the medical resources here to make certain that their healthful lifestyle continues.

Stony Brook University Medical Center is home to the county’s Level 1 Trauma and Perinatal Centers, Burn Unit, medical and dental schools, and a clinical research center. Spread throughout the county are 12 private hospitals operated by either of two major healthcare systems – the North Shore/Long Island Jewish Healthcare System or Catholic Health Services. The county also hosts the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Nursing Home, and the Long Island Veterans Home. Oncology resources include the Long Island Cancer Center at Stony Brook and a 50,000-square-foot facility operated by the world-renowned Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Quality care for our older residents can be found at scores of assisted living and skilled nursing facilities throughout the county.
