An emphasis on education

Suffolk County school districts rank among the finest in the country. Each year you will find our students shine in national academic and talent competitions. In 2008, in fact, four of the 40 finalists in the national Intel Science Talent Search came from Suffolk County schools.

Academic excellence and opportunity don’t end with high school, however – not in a county where more than half the population has attended college. The three campuses of Suffolk County Community College comprise one of the nation’s largest junior college systems, with more than 23,000 full- and part-time students. State University of New York campuses at Farmingdale and Stony Brook have an annual enrollment of nearly 30,000 students, and the county also hosts the campuses of eight private colleges and universities.

For residents not considering college, Suffolk County’s Board of Cooperative Education Services offer dozens of career-oriented programs, ranging from aviation to pre-engineering, through the Wilson Technological Center, where over 16,000 students train for vocational careers each year.

From kindergarten to a Ph.D., outstanding educational opportunities are available right here in Suffolk County.
