Reviving the American Dream

Suffolk County residents enjoy a region that offers one of America’s most livable lifestyles. As a consequence, housing here is in great demand, and that affects the affordability of owning a home…a challenge we share with similarly attractive areas throughout the country. Through Economic Development and Workforce Housing, Suffolk has created initiatives and programs to ensure that affordable housing is a possibility for every member of our workforce.

Among these are programs that provide material incentives – in terms of land acquisition, infrastructure improvement and project fast tracking – to developers who devote at least 20% of their project to workforce housing. Through an Employer Assisted Housing Program, the county works with employers to secure non-interest-bearing, deferred-payment, forgivable loans to assist their employees in making down payments on a home.

To learn more about these and other ways that Suffolk is creating more affordable housing within the county, visit the Division of Affordable and Workforce Housing pages.
